Our population is aging at an alarming rate. Having worked with hundreds of seniors in our community through his business, Cody has seen first hand a looming problem for our community: many elderly people are struggling to keep up with the demands of daily life and we have to act now to make sure they are all properly cared for, no matter what. We must protect the safety, dignity, and quality of life for all elders in North Glengarry.

Cody’s plan to save our seniors:
– establish a one-stop-shop community hotline to the township for seniors and their families to get local human support when they need it.
– provide patient and compassionate help straight from the township with assistance, follow ups, and check-ins to ensure no senior is overwhelmed by the process or technological barriers to receiving help from outside agencies.
– commit to fundraising in-full a community shuttle to ensure seniors without reliable transportation can access appointments, essential errands, and community events within north glengarry.
– provide regular promotion from the township, free of charge, to any local business who commits to providing a discount or voluntary service to senior citizens. our role is to help people who help people.
– ENACT THE MOST FISCALLY responsible MUNICIPAL BUDGET THAT NORTH GLENGARRY HAS ever seen TO LOWER the TAX BURDEN, make life affordable again AND PROVIDE NECESSARY RELIEF TO SENIORS LIVING ON A FIXED INCOME.
– Commit to green-light all small-scale affordable housing projects, such as tiny homes and additional dwellings, within the bounds of Ontario Building Code. To ensure that seniors have affordable options for renting or owning, we will do all in our power to create more affordable housing. not block it.
North Glengarry is a beautiful place to retire and we should keep it that way. However as our median age continues to creep upwards we’re going to be faced with a major challenge… the need to take care of hundreds of local people who are becoming increasingly dependent with each passing year. Due to ongoing demographic trends, our residents are aging into dependence faster than younger generations are moving here and starting families here to keep up. That means the ratio of dependent elderly to capable caregivers will continue to worsen therefore we need to do all that we can as a community to fill in the gaps and secure a safe and fulfilling retirement for everybody.
North Glengarry is a caring community and there’s no doubt that they’re up for this challenge. As a small and tight-nit community, with the right plan and organizational effort from our Township we can band together and make sure that no senior living here ever goes without, while also being fiscally responsible to keep the cost of living low and secure a strong economic future for their children and grandchildren.
What impacts one impacts all – not only will stepping up local supports for our elderly help them directly – it will also help take the load off of our ever-increasing number of local families struggling to care for their aging relatives while juggling all the other struggles of daily life.
Our seniors have worked hard their entire lives – now it’s time to uphold the social contract and make sure their needs are met in their hard-earned retirement. We must also ensure we do so in a financially sustainable way to uphold that same contract for future generations.
when we work together, there’s no challenge too big for our small communuty to handle!
