Too many people are slipping through the cracks. Often times help is non-existent or overly complex and bureaucratic. The community volunteer fund is intended to give easy-to-access support for those who don’t know where else to go.

Goals of the glengarry volunteer corps:

– originally the goal was to enact a volunteer fund through by-law. after taking into consideration community feedback, the fund will instead be registered as a local charity under the banner of glengarry volunteer corps. This is to bypass potential delays and procedural friction caused by government process.

– the organization will act as a social safety net, exclusively for those in glengarry who cannot find relief by other means. The fund will be ran entirely on a volunteer and donation basis. whenever possible, the organization will utilize volunteerism to provide aid versus the direct disbursement of funds.

– example situations where the fund can help: senior couple struggling with lawn care and snow removal, elderly widow needing grocery delivery while awaiting move to nursing home, families suffering recent tragedy such as car accident or housefire, young couple facing recent layoff and food scarcity.

– we have 10,000 residents in North Glengarry. With an average donation of $25 per person per year, there would be $250,000 in annual funding for the organization. large donors can heavily increase this average.

– The charity is not intended to replace or compete with any existing program. It is intended to act as a last resort for those situations where help is needed and there’s nowhere left to turn. to ensure nobody in our community falls into total helplessness and despair whenever tragedy and hardship strikes.

The beauty of a smaller community like North Glengarry is the fact that we can truly take care of each other without being completely overwhelmed and taken advantage of. When dealing with a city of millions, for example, most programs can’t possible meet demand as funding and manpower become an immediate barrier. But in Glengarry? I believe we’re strong enough to care for everybody that lives here in our tight-knit community.

I believe that here in North Glengarry, there will realistically only be a few dozen people in true need of this type of safety net in any given year. When disaster truly strikes. I believe in my heart that not only will local residents not seek to take advantage of such an initiative, but local residents in a position to give will seek to contribute to such an initiative and be there for their neighbours in need.

People are willing to give, people are willing to volunteer their time and effort, and people are willing to sacrifice for the good of their community. We just need a unifying organizing force to direct their efforts.

When elected Mayor, Cody will take a step back from his business and immediately begin the registration of the Glengarry Volunteer Corps, leveraging his position as Mayor to give such an organization the awareness it needs to get off the ground.

Lastly, upon its creation Cody will organize a major fundraiser for the charity and will donate his infamous Custom Camaro SS to raise money for the cause!

When we combine a community with a leader who cares, nobody slips through the cracks.

Cody is willing to take a step back from his business to put in the work for his community as mayor.
